Rituals to Greet the Spring: A Gentle Reset for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Spring has a way of whispering before it arrives. A soft shift in the light. A breeze that feels a little more alive. The quiet sense that something inside you is ready to stretch, unfurl, and begin again.
Just as nature enters a cycle of renewal, growth, and expansion, we’re invited to do the same. Spring is the season of clearing out the old, planting new intentions, and tending to the inner soil that supports our wellbeing.
I notice spring’s approach in two major ways. Firstly, I notice the increase in daylight. Rising at 5 am is not as dark as it was during the winter. It makes rising feel a little more inviting. Secondly, I notice an urge to get moving and going again, both physically as well as driving forward with life goals. Just as winter coaxes us towards hibernation, spring is the big awakening of the year. Now that I’m starting to feel that awakening, I’m ready to celebrate it and maximize the full potential of this wonderful season.
How am I celebrating the arrival of Spring? I have had the desire to clean. Clean everywhere and everything. On Sunday, I intended to clean the bathroom and lightly dust and vacuum the rest of the house. 6 hours later, my body was a bit wiped, but the house was fresh and sparkling. I’ve done a pass through my closets, my desk drawers, and excavated the very disorganized mess that was my toiletries and makeup under the bathroom sink. I've also weeded the garden and cut back all the overgrowth for the trees and shrubs. (Yes, there have been a lot of achy shoulders and cat naps as a result of all this.)
I’m cleaning my body too. I made it a “dry January” and kept the ball rolling. I’ve focused more heavily on my proteins and produce, maintaining hydration, and moving in some way (preferably outdoors) every day. I also set appointments for the doctor and the dentist, got a haircut, eyebrow wax, and a mani-pedi.
This is part of the urge to get moving, but also it feels good to clear out, clean up, and make space to bloom and grow forward. Studies have shown that we are calmer and more productive in a clean and organized environment. That holds for closets, desks, internal organs, and even thoughts and mindsets. Spring offers us this energetic assist to pull out all the old weeds and rocks, and roots that are overwhelming our proverbial garden bed of life. Clean it out so you have room to plant your next crop.
From an astrological perspective, we also get fiery, motivated Aries energy combined with this year’s Fire Horse for a double dose of “get-to-it” vigor and charge in the air. I feel it. Do you?
I’m also celebrating spring with intention. Planting new seeds (literal and metaphorical) and putting into motion the things I’ve been planning throughout the winter. I like to add ritual to my seasonal and life shifts, including journaling and visionboarding, spending time outdoors, and practicing spring-oriented yoga and meditation.
Here are a few grounding, heart‑opening rituals to help you greet the season with clarity and purpose.
1. Clear Your Space, Clear Your Energy
Spring cleaning isn’t just about dusting shelves—it’s an energetic reset. It feels so freeing to create extra space and a fresh space for yourself.
Open your windows and let fresh air move through your home
Donate or recycle items that no longer support who you’re becoming
Wipe down surfaces with warm water and citrus or eucalyptus
Refresh your bedding, your altar, your workspace
As you clean, imagine you’re creating space for new opportunities, new ideas, and new versions of yourself.
A simple mantra: “I release what no longer serves me. I welcome what nourishes me.”
2. Journal Your Intentions for the Season
Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with your goals—not from pressure, but from possibility.
Try these prompts:
What am I ready to let go of as I enter this new season?
What seeds am I planting for the next three months?
Where do I want to feel more ease, more joy, more alignment?
What habits or routines will support the version of me I’m becoming?
Let your answers be honest, imperfect, and expansive. This is about clarity, not perfection.
3. Clean Up Your Diet (or Try a Gentle Seasonal Reset)
Spring is associated with lightness, digestion, and renewal. This is a beautiful time to:
Add more greens, herbs, and seasonal produce
Hydrate deeply—warm lemon water in the morning is a simple ritual that supports digestion and mood
Reduce heavy, processed, or stagnant foods
Try a gentle cleanse if it feels supportive (think: whole foods, warm meals, simple ingredients)
This isn’t about restriction. It’s about nourishment. Think of it as giving your body the same fresh start you’re giving your home.
4. Create a Morning Ritual That Awakens You
As the days grow longer, your body naturally wants to rise with the light.
Try weaving in:
Start with a warm glass of lemon water (1/2 lemon or 1 drop edible essential oil) to get your digestion moving in the right direction
A few minutes of stretching or yoga
Drink your morning coffee on the porch or near a sunny window to wake with natural light.
A walk outside to sync with the season
A moment of gratitude before checking your phone
These small rituals anchor you into the energy of renewal.
5. Release the Old with a Simple Fire Ritual
Spring is a powerful time to let go of what’s been weighing you down.
Write down:
Habits you’re ready to shift
Thoughts you’re ready to soften
Energies you’re ready to release
Burn the paper safely (in a fire pit, bowl, or candle), and imagine the smoke carrying your old stories away.
🌱 6. Plant Something—Literally or Symbolically
Whether it’s herbs on your windowsill or a succulent on your desk, planting something is a physical reminder of growth.
As you plant, set an intention:
“As this grows, so does my clarity.”
“As this roots, so do I.”
“As this blooms, so does my creativity.”
Nature becomes your accountability partner.
🌞 7. Spend Time in the Sun (Even 10 Minutes Helps)
After winter’s inward pull, your body craves warmth and light.
A few minutes of sunshine can:
Boost your mood
Support your circadian rhythm
Increase energy and motivation
Help you feel more connected to the season
Let the sun be your reminder that brighter days are here.
🌼 A Season of Becoming
Spring isn’t about reinventing yourself overnight. It’s about gentle shifts. Small openings. Quiet beginnings.
It’s the season of possibility.
As you move through these rituals, trust that every step—every cleared drawer, every journal entry, every nourishing meal—is part of your unfolding.
You’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience, wisdom, and intention.
And that’s the most powerful place to begin.
